As you will soon find out by visiting this site… I LOVE walking. I walk every morning at 7AM with my mom and it is such a good way for us to bond with one another and start the day on a positive, calming note. Aside from walking in the morning, I make an effort to walk as much as possible throughout the day (because who doesn’t love having a high step count?!) and have an active lifestyle.
Due to my love for walking, it only makes sense that I would obsess over hiking, right?! Earth is beautiful and I find it so fun to discover new trails and caves to explore.
The other day, I went on an AMAZING hike in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Here are a few shots from the day:
Here are my top 3 reasons why (in my opinion) everyone should go on an occasional hike:
- It helps you focus the rest of the day! I think it is very important to take some time out of your day to relax your mind and only focus on your thoughts and surroundings. Instead of watching another episode on Netflix, try getting outside and walking for a bit (a hike doesn’t have to mean traveling 20 miles and evading landslides along the way). Getting some fresh air never hurts! And unlike that Netflix show, hiking lasts forever. There is always new ground to cover!
- You feel proud about the area you live in. HIKE LOCAL. There is nothing saying you have to go all the way to the Grand Canyon or climb up 90 degree cliffs to have a breathtaking hike. I don’t know about you, but I grew up in a suburb of Ohio, and I spent a lot of my childhood wishing that I lived somewhere else, somewhere more exciting. It wasn’t until the end of my senior year (this past year) of high school when I truly came to realize the beauty and potential of the area in which I lived. In the past year, I have discovered sunflower fields, caves, lavender patches, and even beaches all within a drivable distance of my house. I was so unaware!! So my new philosophy is now that everyone should start with planning one or two adventures to go on in their area. Believe me, it will really open your eyes to the beauty of the world. If I was able to find adventure in Ohio, you can find it wherever you go!
- There are countless PHOTO OPS!! Who doesn’t love the being able to share Earth’s spectacular beauty with others?! Each photo is a memory and moment in your life that you can relive and an opportunity to remember the experience you had on your hike. If you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed (it happens to the best of us), you can take a moment and flip to the photos, perhaps closing your eyes and imagining yourself in the woods. You can also allow your friends and family to get a taste of adventure when you show them some moments from your trek.
There will be a later post on more benefits of hiking and why I walk versus run. In the meantime, have a lovely day! xo Bridget
